Hot-rolled carbon steel coil
Definition: Hot-rolled carbon steel coil is a coil formed by heating the carbon steel billet to a high temperature (generally above the recrystallization temperature) and rolling it through a roller. For example, the billet is heated to about 1100-1250ºC, and then continuously rolled through the rough rolling and finishing rolling units to finally form a thin coil.
Performance characteristics:
Good mechanical properties: Due to high-temperature rolling, the metal has good plasticity and low deformation resistance, which can refine and homogenize the grains inside the steel. This makes the hot-rolled carbon steel coil have good toughness and ductility, and is more suitable for structural parts that withstand greater impact forces, such as automobile beams, steel sections for construction, etc.
Relatively low dimensional accuracy: During the hot rolling process, because the steel is rolled at a higher temperature, it will shrink to a certain extent after cooling, so its dimensional accuracy is not as good as that of cold-rolled carbon steel coil. Generally, the thickness tolerance of hot-rolled carbon steel coil is about ±0.2-0.5mm.
Application areas: Widely used in the construction industry, such as making steel structure frames, bridge beams, etc.; in the field of machinery manufacturing, it is used to manufacture some parts that do not require extremely high shape accuracy but require strength and toughness, such as the shell of agricultural machinery.
Cold-rolled carbon steel coil
Definition: Cold-rolled carbon steel coil is a product obtained by further rolling hot-rolled carbon steel coils or thicker carbon steel plates at room temperature. It is a process of applying pressure to the steel by a cold rolling mill, causing it to undergo plastic deformation and become thinner.
Performance characteristics:
High dimensional accuracy: The cold rolling process is carried out at room temperature, and there will be no thermal expansion and contraction phenomenon like hot rolling, so higher dimensional accuracy can be obtained. The thickness tolerance of cold-rolled carbon steel coils can be controlled within ±0.05 - 0.1mm, and the surface flatness is also very high, which can meet some application scenarios with demanding dimensional accuracy requirements.
Good surface quality: The cold rolling process can make the steel surface smoother and cleaner, and different surface roughness can be obtained by controlling the rolling process. Its surface quality is suitable for subsequent surface treatments such as painting and electroplating, and can produce products with excellent appearance quality.
Flexible adjustment of mechanical properties: Through work hardening during cold rolling, the strength and hardness of steel can be appropriately improved. And according to different needs, the mechanical properties of steel can be adjusted by controlling parameters such as cold rolling reduction. However, excessive cold rolling may cause the toughness of steel to decrease, so it is necessary to reasonably control the process parameters.
